An Interview with Hamilton Morris
Psychedelics, Vice News, and Journalistic Integrity
In case you missed it—
at North Spore, we recently had the privilege of sitting down with Hamilton Morris, the renowned chemist, documentarian, and investigative journalist behind Hamilton’s Pharmacopeia. In our conversation, Hamilton shared his unique journey through psychedelic research, independent journalism, and the world of chemistry.
He spoke candidly about the challenges of reporting on psychoactive substances in mainstream media, the importance of independent platforms, and the evolving scientific interest in compounds like MDMA and psilocybin. Hamilton also reflected on his influences, including Ann and Alexander Shulgin, and emphasized the critical role chemistry plays in understanding psychedelics.
We also discussed the state of psychedelic therapy, the impact of drug policy on scientific progress, and the misinformation surrounding the industry. Hamilton offered his perspective on the recent controversies within the psychedelic community and how sensationalist journalism can distort public perception.
Finally, we were excited to dive into a project we’re working on—reproducing Jochen Gartz’s studies on enhancing mushroom substrates with bioactive compounds. With advances in testing and shifting legal landscapes, we’re eager to explore the potential of this research.
It was an honor to hear Hamilton’s insights, and we’re thrilled to share this conversation with our community. Check out the full interview below and let us know what you think!
