For over 3,000 years, Indigenous peoples across North America have practiced the Three Sisters method—growing corn, beans, and squash together in a mutually supportive system.
Hey so I made Winecap beds last summer, the mycelium expanded and I spread it to new piles. Had a few mushrooms in the fall. This spring I was like woah that’s a lot of winecaps - gave them to ppl, ate them etc… and now they aren’t stopping - way to many mushrooms plus once the first generation ages there’s little maggots in the new ones idk kind of a mess tbh but cool at first - wish I could turn them off for a little.
Sounds like your Wine Caps really took off - that’s awesome (and can be intense)! Once they get going, they can be super productive, especially in spring.
wordd any thoughts on gastrointestinal distress following successive meals of WC? had read it briefly in Staments the mushroom cultivator then had a friend seemingly experience it - like pretty intensely… should WC spawn come with disclaimers?
Good question - we will look into this more. I talked with the customer service team and none of them have heard of a customer experiencing this. That being said, we definitely recommend always cooking them thoroughly and we may write in a disclaimer about eating them in excess. Thanks for bringing it up!
Noted - for reference pg 298 of Mycelium Running, pg 338 of Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms. Both make consumption advisories but seem based on isolated cases.

If you want to slow things down a bit, try letting the beds dry out more - less moisture means fewer mushrooms. Picking them before they fully mature can cut down on the larvae, and you can always preserve them to eat later: https://northspore.com/blogs/the-black-trumpet/4-easy-ways-to-preserve-mushrooms
